This is a very nice book with cohesiveness to the information and terrific illustrations. Downside is it is very hard to read with the choice of text color against a black background. White text would have been better. A lot of eye strain to read, but again, pushing through that the info was good and I definately enjoyed the illustrations to go with the data. Woikd have been 5 stars if I would have had an easier read.
Although I purchased this for my death-obsessed sibling, I was able to page through it. What a rich compendium of morbid objects, anthropology, history and lore. I know that the author's museum had shuttered - and really, the book far excels the museum. A good size for coffee-table display, handsomely bound, and, again, it's jam-packed with unusual, well-photographed works and colorful writing. A must-have for anyone fascinated with how the world has viewed death through the ages.
Wonderful book. I agree the gold text on black is hard to read, but not impossible. I adore all the illustrations, art, and photos. It's been very interesting and even works great if all you want is some morbid design reference. Very happy I bought this, and would definitely recommend. learned lots of interesting things I didn't know before.
beautiful book,superbly edited-illustrations are well chosen and comprehensive. sepia ink on brown paper makes reading this a lot more work than it should be; makes what could have been a totally delightful experience a tad disappointing.Buy it for the art.
Holly, molly! What a fascinating book! Dozens and dozens of beautiful pictures, photos of paintings and drawings, and also great info. But forget the text, just the pictures make it worth the investment. WOW!! I am so glad to have purchased it. Absolutely recommended for the "morbidly" or darkly inclined. Other reviewers have already mentioned the high quality of the book and I agree with them. Some have also criticized the text as difficult to read because of its pale color, well IMO, it's not that bad, although it should be improved in further editions! Get the book, before it's sold out! I'm completely satisfied with it!
